Preparing for an Interview

media-interview

Putting your business, non-profit or government agency in front of the news media should not be taken lightly! Before saying yes to letting a reporter interview you - you should interview them first!

I have a downloadable worksheet that you can use to interview a journalist and help prepare for the interview. This worksheet has important questions you should know the answers to before agreeing to the interview.

Once you have a clear understanding of what the journalists are working on - then you can make an informed decision on if this is a story you want to participate in or not.

If you decide you want to be a part of the story - then you need to prepare your own messaging. Come up with 3-5 points you want to make during the interview and jot those down.

Next is the time to practice! Repeat those key messages several times in front of a mirror, in your head, and to someone else. With this much repetition, when the questions come from the reporter and you are a little nervous - these answers will be much easier for your brain to remember.
